ESL Flashcard Game for Kids and Teens: Brain Drain

This is a clever little ESL flashcard activity for kids and teens which requires your students to think and engage a little more. It can be adapted to fit multi-levels of ability and also varying ages, depending on the task the teachers sets.

Divide your students into small groups and then choose and pin to the white board a flashcard from your lexical set. Students now have 60 seconds to brainstorm or list any associated words they know. Younger students can call out words at the end of the allotted time.

For example: Apple

Fruit, red, food, tasty, tree.

For teens, you can hand a flashcard to each group and give them a few minutes to write as many associated words as they can. The teacher takes back all of the flashcards, then each group hands their list of words to another team to guess the missing flashcard word..
