Integrating technology in EFL for purposeful learning

First of all, I would like to congratulate the makers of this wonderful course that is made with interesting topics that are well presented and easy to comprehend. Also, all the topics gave examples and in depth details that enables new and tenure teachers, or enable anyone who has a passion for learning and teaching to grasp the course topics, techniques, and skills set.

Classrooms didn’t change for decades

Classrooms did not change much from ancient times down to the twenty-first century. A  teacher stands in the front of the room, with the students arranged in seats. The teacher talks and the students listen. And more than a few will fall asleep over the course of the school year because of the traditional classroom setup is boring.

Teachers need to evolve with the technology

As technology continues to evolve, as teachers we need to learn how to understand, utilize and adapt to the new advances we are seeing every day. Introducing learners to technology at a young age in an educational format can have huge benefits and can be helpful to their development. Integrating technology should only be done if it is used for learning and can help meet developmental objectives.

Using technology for learning at a deeper level

Technology can be used along with art activities, books, and play materials. Having an active participation in the classroom setting will enable deep, cognitive processing, and allow intentional, purposeful learning at the child’s developmental level.

As educators we can expand children’s understanding of the world around them in a way they have not experienced, with only discussion or a book. By adding technology to these methodologies of learning, a child can experience learning at a deeper level. I have learned that deliberate handling of technology benefits students today by building community, developing vital science, math and literacy skills, expanding imagination, promoting creativity, and fostering classroom engagement.

Technology is a great tool for learning

What I have learned is that firstly, technology when used appropriately can be a great tool for learning. Secondly, it should be used to increase access to learning opportunities for all children and adult learners. Thirdly,  it may be used to strengthen relationships among parents, early educators and students. Fourth, it improves knowledge retention and encourages individual learning, as well as collaboration. Lastly technology is more effective for learning when educators interact or co- view apps, games, videos, etc. with learners using multiple devices like computers, tablets and smart phones.

Technology is interesting for learners and educators

I therefore conclude that using technology in the classroom is both interesting for learners and educators whose goal is to teach and learn in a fun and interesting way.
